What was your first job in the realty industry? I got my license in 1994, and I finally joined the industry as a sales associate in 2003.
Where did you grow up? Calcutta, India. I moved to the U.S. in 1988.
What is your favorite free-time activity? Art, mainly painting. Also, healing through Reiki.
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Go to the library. No matter how stressed you are over things, you have to be quiet there, and it quiets down your mind. And you can pick up a book, start reading and your attention is immediately shifted. I come home relaxed and stress-free.
Growing up, what did you want to be? A doctor. That’s why I enjoy Reiki, as it gives you power to heal others.
If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Steven Spielberg. His movies always fascinate me and take me away to a different world, which feels so real in his films.
Where is your favorite place to hang out? My backyard.
What do you love most about the industry? Helping the people to make what is possibly the biggest financial decision of their lives.
How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I keep the most updated information on the real estate industry, and I’m able to read and write in five languages (four are Indian).
What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Meeting clients’ unrealistic expectations.
Where do you go to network and meet new clients? About 92 percent of my business is referrals. Most of my networking is done at parties, like housewarming parties.
What has been your greatest accomplishment? As a businesswoman, closing 99 percent of my deals. As a wife, being married to same person for 26 years. As a mother, sending two daughters to medical school. Now, I’m working on my 13-year-old son, who wants to be an actor.
What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The Blind Side, and I also recently saw Kahaani (a Hindi movie).
What is your favorite restaurant? Olive Garden.
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago? NBC Tower.
What kind of car do you drive? Dodge Caravan.
Smartphone or paper? Paper.
What is your favorite city after Chicago? San Francisco.
What is your advice for someone new to the industry? Do not start showing your clients homes until you know their financials.
