At first glance, a 20-year career as a registered nurse may not seem like the ideal preparation for becoming a full-time real estate broker — but Shanara Carter believes the skills she honed as an RN are valuable to her every day journey as an agent. “Real estate is a dynamic and complex industry that requires dedication, hard work and a deep understanding of the market. In many ways, it shares similarities with the nursing profession,” she explains. “Just as nurses provide support to patients, real estate agents offer guidance and expertise to clients. The ability to effectively communicate, problem-solve and pay attention to detail are crucial to both professions.”
Carter got her start in real estate 22 years ago, as an investor. Over time, more and more people asked her advice on the subject, and her passion for the industry evolved into a desire to help others find their dream home or investment property. She became a Realtor in 2018 and left her nursing career two years later to focus completely on providing her clients with exceptional service. Her two decades of experience analyzing market trends and identifying profitable investment opportunities has proven invaluable when negotiating the best possible deals, and the insights she provides set her apart from others in the field.
Current clients appreciate Carter’s deep knowledge of the local market and her commitment to understanding their unique needs. “I understand it is not about me,” she says. “I educate as much as I possibly can so that my clients can make informed decisions and not rely on me to make decisions for them. I believe in empowering my clients.”
In addition to studying for a second license in Indiana and co-authoring two books on real estate, Carter is on track to become a managing broker. She is also the founder of Safe in His Hands LLC, a transitional program designed to put homeless, pregnant women on the path to homeownership.
