Happenstance can change the trajectory of our lives. When Catherine Simon Vobornik and her husband purchased their first home, it sparked the beginning of her real estate career. For 19 years, she’s served first-time home buyers, downsizers and relocation clients in Chicago and its suburbs. She specializes in residential real estate, especially single-family homes, condos and multi-unit buildings.
Vobornik’s expertise has brought her recognition as Realtor of the Year from the Oak Park Area Association of Realtors (OPAAR) in 2021 and 2015. She’s the 2021-2022 president of OPAAR, and is a member of the Illinois Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
The time Vobornik spends educating her clients and discussing their individual situations is vital. “I believe that I’m a good listener and communicator,” she says. “I understand my clients’ needs and wants and help them navigate their way through the transaction.”
Clients describe her as “a straight shooter.” She says, “I’m available when they need to talk and get them the answers they need throughout the selling or buying process.” There’s a time for humor and a time to be very serious; Vobornik has mastered both during her career. “I try to make the process fun and easy for my clients,” she says. “But when it comes to negotiating the contract and getting the details worked out, I’m all business.” Vobornik also believes that her ability to recall details about properties is beneficial to her clients and makes her unique in the industry. Her caring personality is another reason she rises above the competition and receives mostly word-of-mouth referrals. “I’m approachable and understanding,” she says. “I always try to have my clients’ best interests in mind. I try to be responsive, especially in a fast-paced and competitive market.”
Vobornik’s kindness is also evident in her personal life. She’s involved with Beyond Hunger, formerly known as the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry.
