After meeting a former lawyer who had become a real estate broker, Mario Greco found the inspiration to do the same. A lawyer himself at the time, Greco was intrigued by the idea of being self-employed and using his legal background in a real estate career. Now, 21 years later, he leads a team of more than 20, including four lawyers and two MBAs, at his MG Group at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago.
With nearly 200 years of combined experience, MG Group is known as a team of problem solvers. “We don’t shy away from anything and can see around corners, so to speak,” Greco says.
The confident Chicago native takes a bold approach to buying and selling, but he also has a deep appreciation for his clients and his role in assisting them with typically the largest financial transactions of their lives. “We’re mostly all business, with a dash of self-effacing humor and even more humility for the trust that clients put in us,” he explains.
More than once, Greco’s legal expertise has helped clients through difficult situations. For example, just last year, he helped a condo owner navigate a sale amid their HOA’s plans to demolish and rebuild their decks, saving the client thousands of dollars in relocation costs by listing at the right time.
Greco and MG Group are highly visible on social media and earned Best Agent Website from Chicago Agent Magazine in 2021 and 2022, but he believes when it comes to rising above the competition, it’s all about experience. Having sold through the run-up of 2002-2007, the Great Recession of 2008-2011, the balanced market, the COVID market, the ups and downs of 2021-2022 and the current slower market, Greco reflects: “We’ve seen everything and been through every different market one can.” Throughout that time, he has won in many multiple-buyer situations by negotiating creative, out-of-the-box terms.
Away from work, Greco enjoys soccer, reading, and spending time with his wife and son. He also serves on the Evans Scholars Selection Committee.
