What do four real estate professionals working for four unique brokerages in Illinois all have in common? As officers of the 50,000-member Illinois REALTORS® association, they are all dedicated to expanding the rights of property owners in the state and making the dream of homeownership a reality for more Illinoisans.
“Almost daily, we are advocating for Illinois residents at the state Capitol and in every city, town and village around the state,” says Michael Gobber, 2023 president of Illinois REALTORS® and a managing broker and partner at Century 21 Circle in Westchester. “We know that local policies affect our clients, our neighbors, our families and our businesses just as much as state policies. That’s why we’re working with state and local elected officials to retain and create more housing that is affordable around the state. While doing so, we will continue to thwart unwarranted regulations, property-tax increases and other measures.”
While different localities have their own unique issues, the common theme is protecting the American Dream. According to Zeke Morris, immediate past president and designated managing broker of EXIT Strategy Realty/EMA Management on the South Side of Chicago, “Central to all our cities and communities is protecting private property rights and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream of homeownership, regardless of one’s gender, race or socioeconomic status.”
Illinois REALTORS® launched a statewide consumer advertising campaign in mid-April. President-elect Matt Silver, partner and senior broker with Corcoran Urban Real Estate in Chicago, points out that “this consumer advertising campaign emphasizes the importance of the American Dream of homeownership and the invaluable role that our 50,000-plus members — REALTORS® — play in taking the dream from realty to reality.”
Realtors are more important now than ever, says Tommy Choi, 2023 treasurer and cofounder and owner of Weinberg Choi Residential at Keller Williams ONEChicago. “We provide the expertise about every aspect of the real estate transaction process that is needed by both existing and prospective homeowners,” he notes. “We are knowledgeable and dedicated to helping them in what is to many the largest investment they will make.”
