It wasn’t just Nancy Ackerman’s background as a global real estate tax consultant that prepared her for a career as a Realtor; it was also her innate ability to connect with people personally and her deep respect for her clients. “So much success comes from treating others with respect,” she says, “and listening well with positive reinforcement, patience, and open and honest communication. I run my business based on this foundation.”
With 30 years’ experience in real estate, 26 of them as a tax consultant with KPMG LLP as a managing director, and now four years in real estate brokerage for Sotheby’s, Ackerman’s market includes all areas of Chicagoland, including a growing expertise in the North Shore market.
While the real estate market nationally was challenging during the Covid pandemic, for Ackerman it was a period of intense growth. “In spite of all these challenges, my business continued to grow, and I had the most fruitful couple of years during Covid,” she notes. She has been recognized by the Top Agent Network for being in the top 10% of agents in Chicagoland. In 2022, she was named by the Chicago Association of Realtors as a top producer in residential volume, and by Jameson Sotheby’s as a Platinum Residential Producer.
In addition to her compassion and deep understanding of what her clients’ concerns, dislikes and likes are, Ackerman believes her adaptability is one of her greatest strengths. “I am able to toggle back and forth between the business side of the transaction and the emotional side,” she points out. “I treat every transaction as though it were my own.”
Says one client, “She is honest, intelligent, a great listener, intuitive, professional and dependable with great follow through.” Another notes, “Her thorough research and preparation of the market and great service-provider referrals enable clients to be in a position to move quickly and confidently to close the deal.” Another says Ackerman “has a fabulous eye for space and decorating to ensure the home shows at its best.”
When not at work, Ackerman enjoys supporting her son’s tennis competitions, and loves playing paddle tennis and golf.
