Being raised in a family of entrepreneurs, Becky Sexson was attracted to the idea of being her own boss as a real estate agent. She took the leap into the industry seven years ago after purchasing her first condo, and her career has grown alongside her family. “I started my real estate career single,” Sexson shares. “Now, I have gotten married, had three kids and moved twice. My career has evolved just as my life has.”
Well-connected in the Chicagoland area, Sexson is known for her experience, patience and client-centered approach. Most of her clients come from referrals, and because she has personally bought, sold and invested in real estate in the area, she can offer insights to help clients succeed, whether they are seasoned investors or buying or selling for the first time.
Setting expectations is important in the current competitive market, so Sexson prepares her buyers before they begin their home search. “I set up buyer’s consultations with all my buyers. This allows me to walk them through the process in detail, so they know what to expect and I can learn more about what they are looking for in a home,” she says.
Her first year in the business, Sexson earned Baird & Warner’s 2017 Rookie of the Year award. This year, she hit $75 million in career sales and topped 200 clients served. She values maintaining relationships with her clients by giving gifts and hosting special events.
Sexson is grateful for a career that blends her desire to help others with the flexibility she needs as a working mom. She also sees how the skills she uses every day help her in real estate. “I truly believe that real estate is a great career for a working mom,” she says. “Moms are experts at multitasking, juggling multiple schedules, fixing boo-boos, anticipating needs, problem-solving and being empathetic, all of which are skills needed to excel in real estate.”
When she’s not buying and selling homes or volunteering in her children’s classrooms, Sexson enjoys traveling with her family.
