Branch Manager
iLoan Home Mortgage

Mortgage professional Brian J. Weichel is a lender people count on. “First one in the office and last one out is the only thing I’ve ever known,” says the iLoan branch manager. “I realized at a young age, people from modest backgrounds like myself could become industry leaders not because they attended prestigious schools or worked on Wall Street, like everyone said you needed to, but because they outpaced the competition.” That mindset inspired him to enter the lending profession eight years ago.

A Chicago native and Loyola University graduate, Weichel finds that creative thinking and learning from others are critical in his career. “I’m fortunate that I’ve spent the past several years with some of the best and most innovative professionals in the mortgage business. That’s motivated me to try and take everything I’ve experienced to continually evolve the mortgage industry as I drive my career forward.”

Weichel also strives to educate the people he works with closely: buyers, real estate agents, and colleagues. “I want them to understand why I recommend a particular product or suggest a certain course of action because lenders don’t always offer that kind of explanation,” he says. “People trust me because I don’t treat them like a file; I build long- lasting relationships.” This is why he becomes friends with his clients and colleagues, with whom he enjoys dinners and celebrates special occasions. These strong connections also make getting the job done easier. “Each of us knows that we’ll always figure out how to solve any issues that may come up during a transaction and that we can leave it all at the closing table and still have a great relationship regardless.”

A cooking enthusiast who volunteers with his alma mater’s mentoring program, Weichel adds that his extensive knowledge of today’s homebuying practices is an advantage for the Millennials he works with. A great deal has changed since their parents purchased a home. “Buying a home can be one of the easiest things to do if you have the right team behind you,” he points out. He draws inspiration from knowing that as long as consumers strive for the American dream of homeownership, there will be a need for his profession. His circle of friends and family continue to encourage him as he works to do the same. “Sometimes you need to follow an unexpected path to end up where you were meant to be,” he says. “That’s the most important lesson I’ve learned over the years and one that I try to share with others.”
