What does “top producer” mean to consumers?

by Chicago Agent

We surveyed local agents to tell us what they think consumers associate with the phrase “top producer.” Here is a selection of their responses:

“Someone who’s busy and experienced.”

“An agent who makes lots of money and sells more than most other agents. Probably has a team.”

“That this agent is in the top 10 percent in sales in that marketplace/city.”

“An agent who is amongst the top 1 percent in the field of real estate. Unfortunately almost everyone claims this accomplishment.”

“I suspect they think it’s a real designation that the firm they work for has bestowed upon them. Not that it means EVERYTHING, but that it’s definitely a good thing.”

“Consumers think someone who sells the most homes by dollar volume is a successful Realtor.”

“They think they will get one agent working on their behalf and will get the job done because they have lots of buyers at their fingertips. What they don’t realize is that most “top producers” have a team and the client will never speak to that top producer again.”

“An industry leader, someone who has advanced knowledge of the market and someone who can offer buyers and sellers something other Realtors may not be able to. A top producer is someone who is a full time broker and industry expert.”

“I believe to a consumer, it’s someone who has a strong level of market activity along with a high level of sales.”
