When Leila Keene had an opportunity to leave a corporate computer job for a more personally satisfying career, she chose real estate. “The instant I saw that look of joy and gratitude on my first client’s face, I knew I made the right choice,” says Keene, a top producing real estate consultant with Baird & Warner Real Estate. Plus, she likes that earnings are based on how hard she works and not on the whims of others. Thirty-four years later, the profession remains her passion.
“Recently one of my most satisfying experiences has been using my broad knowledge to help older adults prepare to move, sell or just make their home more pleasant,” says Keene. “A small helping hand can mean so much when someone gets older.”
Keene assists buyers and sellers, from first time to luxury, in the city and suburbs, a territory she knows well from decades of exploring it with clients. “My 16 years in the corporate computer world helped me understand that you must know all about the industry you’re working in,” she says. Taking that lesson to heart, she earned the prestigious designations of Graduate, REALTOR Institute; Certified Residential Specialist; managing broker and licensed in Florida. Keene also makes it a point to get to know each client personally. She listens to their wants, and needs, and tries to find properties that fit their criteria.
Her responsiveness, one-on-one attention, and willingness to go beyond expectations to help them achieve their goals has generated a lot of repeat and referral business. Keene’s interest in classical music and hobbies, such as sailing, travel and exercise, provide another way for her to network and meet potential new clients.
Once a transaction closes, she says most clients miss talking to her on a regular basis, so she tries to stay in touch often.
