For mortgage veteran Larry Steinway, making the move to a leadership position at New American Funding last year was a big step but also a natural transition in his 30-year lending career. Having been recruited into the mortgage business as a young man, he knows the industry like few others and was ready for a new challenge.
A communicator from the word “go,” Steinway values real conversations and being accessible to his clients, most of whom are referrals from the real estate agents he works with. “We never just text a few items,” he confirms. “Having a conversation to discuss their needs is mandatory.” Steinway’s communication skills extend to social media, where he regularly provides tips and industry insights on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Known for his speed, efficiency and responsiveness, he says he has a dialed-in system to relay information concisely and clearly, which helps build a strong rapport throughout the process. In addition, he emphasizes the value of listening so he can find the right lending solution for each client based on their needs.
Inducted into New American Funding’s President’s Council in 2024, Steinway also earned Chairman’s Club status in 2021-2022 and President’s Club status from 2014 to 2019 during his prior tenure at Rate. He attributes much of his success to not only his three decades in the mortgage industry but also his efficient and capable team at New American, whose expertise allows him to focus on leadership and sales instead of administrative tasks.
A lifelong rock musician, Steinway blows off steam with his Grateful Dead tribute band, Deadfest Band, which is booked solid through the rest of 2025. He also enjoys keeping up with his and his wife, Elizabeth’s, college-age daughters at UCLA and Ohio State.
