Susan O’Connor Davis, Broker

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago

The passion that drives Susan O’Connor Davis can be found in her love for historic properties in Kenwood and Hyde Park. In fact, she wrote the book on those neighborhoods — literally. Published in 2013 by the University of Chicago Press, “Chicago’s Historic Hyde Park” details the development of these South Side neighborhoods during the 19th and 20th centuries.

“It was an arduous process that taught me volumes about the history of not only the housing stock but the greater city and country,” explains Davis. Years of research brought a depth of knowledge about what housing is located in these historic neighborhoods of Chicago, and, most importantly, why it matters. “Afterwards I had all these houses swimming in my brain and thought that real estate could be a logical extension,” notes Davis. “Knowing the housing stock is key: every block varies, every corner varies and every house varies.”

Davis’ second book, “Historic Illinois: A Tour of the State’s Top National Landmarks,” was released last December. Researching the book developed Davis’ deep understanding of the intricacies of notable properties, enabling her to provide valuable guidance to her clients. “Knowledge is key with these old houses,” she shares. “They hold their secrets.”

Davis’ commitment to her clients is evident in her approach to real estate. “My clients know that I am fiercely honest,” she says. “They understand I know what I am doing and recognize that their needs are the focus of my attention.” In a former position as a regional manager for Knoll International, Davis learned the sales process, how to manage time and staff and how to forge strong relationships with clients. The knowledge she brings to this chapter of her career is clear.

In addition to her achievements as a Realtor and author, Davis has received notable recognition for her contributions to the community. She was honored with the Hyde Park Historical Society’s Jean Block Award for Excellence and the American Institute of Architects’ Distinguished Building Award, given for her own modernist home, designed by noted preservationist John Vinci and constructed in historic Kenwood.
