A fourth-generation Chicagoan, Charlie Cohen grew up in the suburbs but quickly gained an affinity for the city’s culture. He studied classical music in college, though he was naturally drawn to architecture. He later began working in construction and the management of multifamily buildings. Becoming a broker was the next natural step. For the past decade, Cohen has been lauded for the cadre of interesting properties in his repertoire. He stands out for his hands-on experience with vintage and architecturally significant buildings. He understands their construction methods and knows how to rehab them. He also owns, operates and has renovated a portfolio of midsize apartment buildings on the Northside throughout his career.
“I want to simply be the best advisor I can during and after the transaction,” says Cohen. With a friendly and patient demeanor, many of his clients come through referrals, Instagram and individuals seeking a Chicago agent with his unique expertise. Cohen is lauded for his acuity, knowledge and reliability. “I think my knowledge of architecture and taste, plus my background in construction and property analytics are really helpful to buyers looking to realize a special vision,” he notes.
With a penchant for qualifying his clients, Cohen is known to open buyers up to possibilities they hadn’t previously considered. For sellers, he stresses the importance of the first impression for maximum success. He recently accepted his current role as a senior broker at Peak Realty Chicago. For the first time in his career, he is working collaboratively with other brokers and sharing his tradecraft with the firm’s less-senior professionals.
