As a child, Katie Ahern spent a lot of time driving through beautiful neighborhoods and visiting open houses with her mom—experiences that ignited her passion for architecture, and beautiful homes. Ahern, a residential real estate broker with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, has been living in Hinsdale for the last 25 years. She and her husband raised their three children in Hinsdale, and couldn’t be happier about that decision.
“I truly love what I do,” gushes Ahern, who has been assisting buyers and sellers in the western suburbs and city since 2005. “Watching my clients thrive and live happily where they landed is gratifying and makes me feel like I played a small part in that.”
In 2021, Ahern was recognized within @properties as a Road to Rolex recipient and ranked among the Top 3% of residential brokers based on sales volume by the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.
Understanding where clients work, their family-size, how often they entertain and the activities they like to do, such as gardening or spending time outside, determines where and why she shows them certain homes. It has also played a role in her success.
“If you have a broker who understands these details and how your life is affected by a house location, you have won half the battle,” she explains.
In today’s low-inventory market with a large number of buyers, she does extensive research within her office and with brokers from other firms. Rather than solely rely on the MLS, she always knows the homes that are “coming soon” and available in the Private Listing Network. Ahern loves working open houses for her listings and showing attendees what it’s like to work with her.
Throughout the process, she treats clients like family and protects them from making bad decisions. Running her business with integrity and attention to detail has proven to be her biggest asset. Waking up every day with gratitude for a career she loves, she feels like she has cracked the code for how to live a full life.
