Joe Gerber, Founding Advisor and Principal Broker

The Gerber Group, Engel & Völkers Chicago North Shore

Seeing the resiliency of his neighbors and friends after six or seven homes on his block fell into foreclosure during the 2008 recession, Joe Gerber felt a calling to fill the supporting role in stories of people searching for a home.

Much of his business is rooted in helping others in need, so he often assists families in transition. Whether that means meeting a plumber at a vacant listing during a midnight flood for an out-of-state client or helping a client pack and move during a rainstorm, Gerber, founding advisor and principal broker of The Gerber Group with Engel & Völkers Chicago North Shore, does whatever it takes to close deals on time.

Because of his background in special education, youth advocacy and community activism, Gerber’s business has always been rooted in equity and being an advisor and advocate for his clients. “I listen to clients’ needs, cater the process to their needs and am committed to creating positive results for them,” he says. “It has been the recipe for my success — my clients feel that I am always advocating for them. Even if I have 20 active clients at a time, they always feel like they are my No. 1 priority.”

A top-producing agent recognized for his sales volume and units closed each year, Gerber has closed 150 transactions across 35 suburban communities and 25 Chicago neighborhoods since launching his practice in 2018. His business, which has grown each year an average of 265%, year over year, spans the far northwest and the north and south suburbs. Deals have ranged from $30,000 rural land parcels to million-dollar luxury properties on the North Shore.

Before real estate, Gerber worked in special education. Now he continues to inspire others with his own story of overcoming obstacles to achieve success. A mentor and resource to fellow agents, he supports LGBTQ+ youth and holds several leadership positions in industry organizations.
