Illinois REALTORS® and its 50,000 members are committed to helping make the dream of homeownership a reality for everyone in Illinois. 

“Homeownership has long been seen as the major component of the ‘American Dream’ because it builds equity as well as generational wealth. It also helps to create strong communities, economic opportunities and educational achievement,” says 2022 President Ezekiel “Zeke” Morris, designated managing broker of EXIT Strategy Realty/EMA Management in Chicago. “Our American Dream campaign enhances the reputation of the real estate industry and helps ensure that everyone has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream of homeownership, regardless of one’s gender, race or socio-economic status.” 

Immediate past president, Sue Miller, designated managing broker of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group in McHenry, believes education is vital to creating equitable housing opportunities. “Illinois REALTORS® has partnered with the Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation to administer a minority scholarship program and sponsor a grant program for Illinois real estate firms to retain diversity and inclusion experts to help them implement diversity business practices in the workplace.” 

Working with state elected officials will be invaluable, notes Treasurer Matt Silver, partner and senior broker with Corcoran Urban Real Estate in Chicago. “From an advocacy standpoint, we are focused on retaining and creating more housing that is affordable around the state. We will continue to thwart unwarranted regulations, property tax increases and other measures.”

President-elect Michael Gobber, designated managing broker and partner of Century 21 Affiliated in Westchester, says, “To give everyone the opportunity to achieve the American Dream, we remain focused on diversifying the real estate industry and identifying and breaking down barriers such as discriminatory appraisals and other remaining vestiges of housing discrimination.”
