Gabriela Wilewska

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I worked in core engineering at Citadel.

Where did you grow up?
Poland, then Naperville.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
I always had a passion for real estate, but in general I really wanted to be a “Boss Lady.”

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Work out and cook.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Barbara Corcoran — she’s the epitome of a Boss Lady, and not only a real estate legend, but also a serial entrepreneur.

What is Chicago’s best-kept secret?
The Riverwalk! Now bustling with lots of trendy restaurants.

What do you love most about the industry?
The feeling you get when you’re able to find buyers their dream home and also help sellers make a great return on their investment.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
Real estate goes well beyond just selling a home. I help clients renovate their homes and help design their spaces so that they could really love their home.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
There are never enough hours in the day! Between research, marketing, pricing and meeting with clients, I always want to do more, but sleep is also very important.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Referrals are the best compliments — work with your previous buyers and sellers to generate more business.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Selling two back-to-back, highest-ever-sold homes in Picardy Place!

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
“Selling Sunset” of course, and “Million Dollar Listing.” I’m listening to “How I Built This” by Guy Raz and “Love an Occasional Entrepreneur” on Fire podcast!

What’s your favorite meal in Chicago?
Pizzeria Portofino’s gluten free pizza!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago?
I love the historical buildings in Chicago, but I get really excited about modern architecture. I’ve loved watching the St. Regis (formerly Vista) building rise over the last few years and it’s easily become one of my favorites.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
Someone asking if they can try an oven during an open house to see how well it cooks!

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
That I’m vegan! Growing up Polish, there was definitely lots of meat at every meal. I have been vegan for almost five years now and love how I feel.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Croatia — the food, culture, and perfectly clear water is a sight to see.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
You have to be dedicated and work hard every day, this is not just a job, it’s a lifestyle!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
HomeSnap.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
Ryan Serhant, Josh and Heather Altman and Keeping Current Matters.
