Jen Schreiber Real Estate Broker, Dream Town, Lincoln Square

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
Digital media director, Starcom MediaVest Group.

Where did you grow up?
In Queens, NY.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
An architect.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Watch British crime dramas. Walk my dog and leave my phone at home. The New York Times crossword puzzle.

What is Chicago’s best-kept secret?
Not a secret per se, but Humboldt Park is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful spots in the city.

What do you love most about the industry?
I love the brokers that I get to work with in the Chicago area. I’ve found that many of the agents that I’ve met are really good people who just want to do right by their clients.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
In our industry, we work with individuals on a very personal level, and it’s a privilege to have that type of access. To honor that privilege, I always try to imagine myself in my clients’ shoes so that I can understand their situations, their concerns, their perspectives and guide them in a way that’s most effective for their needs.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Setting boundaries and taking time off.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Keeping in touch with and staying in front of my sphere has been my most powerful tool for generating new and repeat business. Phone calls, texts, emails, social media… stay in touch and always remind them that you’re a broker and never too busy to work with them!

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Becoming a Chicago Association of Realtors Top Producer within four years of becoming a broker.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
Ted Lasso!

What’s your favorite meal in Chicago?
Etta – wild mushroom pizza. It’s pure heaven.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago?
The Chicago Cultural Center.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
Not weird as much as embarrassing. I used the restroom at a crowded open house and the toilet overflowed into the next room.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
Most people who know me know that I’m pretty boisterous, chatty and have a naturally loud speaking voice (it’s a New York thing) but I’m convinced that I’m actually an introvert. I re-energize by spending a quiet night at home. I think that’s why I place so much importance on home and one of the reasons why I love being a broker.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
England. I’ve probably been abut seven times now and it just speaks to me. I especially love the countryside and all those cozy, charming little towns that dot the landscape.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Work smart, be thoughtful and stay the course.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
Homesnap

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
Zillow Gone Wild. It’s so fun to check out those over-the-top listings and be grateful that I’m not the listing agent 🙂
