Agent Snapshot: Joe Rueck, Broker Associate, Americorp Real Estate, Matt Laricy Group

What was your first job in the realty industry? Broker associate.

Where did you grow up? Mount Greenwood.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be an accountant because my nana’s friend’s son drove a red Jaguar and he was an accountant. I remember as a kid saying, ”I’ll have that car someday.”

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? When I’m stressed, I usually go to the gym, take my dog for a walk or call my mom.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Jeff Bezos. I would like to pick his brain about entrepreneurship. More importantly, I would try selling our great city, Chicago, to him for his new Amazon headquarters.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? I enjoy any outdoor/rooftop restaurant or bars.

What do you love most about the industry? The daily grind. I like how no two days are the same and every day has a new challenge or new
opportunity.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? It’s simple: I work more. I believe I work harder than the rest. Life is meant for work, not play.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? I think the hardest part of my job is trying to have a personal life outside of work. Real estate is 24/7 and I try to make myself available at any time for all my clients.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? The gym and dog parks are good places to meet people, but I also try to do as many open houses as possible.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? Movie: “Dunkirk.” Book: “7L.”

What is your favorite restaurant? Mastro’s.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago? Trump Tower. What’s not to love about it?

What kind of car do you drive? Lexus IS 350 F Sport.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Chicago? San Diego.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Find yourself a good mentor and work your butt off.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Zillow.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Not a big Twitter guy, but probably LeBron James and Mark Cuban.
