Vol. 4, Iss. 13, Agent Snapshot: Nita Snider, New West Realty, University Village, Chicago

What was your first job in the realty industry?
I’ve been with New West Realty since the beginning of my career in the fall of 1991. I guess you’d say I’m a “lifer.”

Who inspires you?
All of the self-made millionaires and true entrepreneurs in this country

What is your favorite free-time activity?
Shopping for shoes

How did you learn the business?
A seasoned agent in my office, Alex Brusha, took me under his wing and taught me the business. I will always be grateful for him sharing his knowledge, resources and time.

What was your most difficult sale, and how did you succeed?
Every sale has its sticking point, and I don’t remember any one being more difficult than the next. However, I have had some very memorable situations, such as the time when two Rottweilers got loose during a listing appointment!

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Real estate is so fast paced that it is important to delegate, but that in and of itself can be a challenge.

What was your worst job, and what did you learn from it?
I worked in a cookie factory the summer before entering college. I did the mundane task of picking up cookies as they rolled down the conveyer belt and placed them in a cellophane tray…for eight hours a day. It was boring, monotonous, dead-end and, to this day, gives me the motivation to keep going whenever I think I want to quit.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
I tap into my database for referrals. Referrals are the purest way to run any successful business. Don’t underestimate the power of your client base and the people they know.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
I will celebrate 25 years of marriage this June.

Where would you like to be in five years, professionally?
Living six months a year in Chicago, the other six months in a warm place (during the winter months, of course) doing some brokerage, and spending the majority of my time giving back to worthy causes.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read?
“The Secret” (book version)

What is your favorite restaurant?
Bacchanalia in Little Italy; they have the best chicken vesuvio in the city.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago?
The Merchandise Mart; it’s so mammoth.

What kind of car do you drive?
Jeep Cherokee

BlackBerry, Palm or paper?
I use the palm of my hand to write on paper while eating blackberries.

What is your favorite city after Chicago?
Dublin; the people are so warm and friendly, and I love the colorful doors.

What is your personal motto?
“Let go and let God.”

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Correct pricing will sell any property.
