The dynamic duo behind Fogarty & Fugate LLC, Kelli Fogarty and Dean Fugate, bring a combined 46 years of experience in the real estate law industry. Their firm is dedicated solely to residential real estate law, serving clients throughout the metro area. “We are a two-attorney firm who also happen to be married to each other,” says Fogarty. “We try to make lasting bonds with clients, brokers and other attorneys to improve the overall market and service we provide.”
Fugate was inspired by his father’s career as a lawyer, which prompted him to leave his corporate sales job, acquire his law license and eventually work in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. That is where his path crossed with Fogarty’s. Growing up with a mother who was a managing broker for one of the largest suburban brokerage offices in the area, Fogarty was immersed in real estate from a young age.
“Kelli is the natural debater,” says Fugate, “and I am a skilled and formidable writer, so we soon found we had the makings of a great partnership in real estate law. Our work in the state’s attorney’s office gave us the ultimate in fast-paced litigation training. That prepared us both to think on our feet in the breakneck speed of real estate law.”
Fogarty’s passion for the field led her to establish the Chicagoland Association of Real Estate Attorneys (AREA), aimed at promoting comradery among residential real estate attorneys and enhancing the closing process. “What started as a small group hit more than 160 members earlier this year,” Fogarty says with pride.
When working with Fogarty and Fugate, clients can expect a smooth and stress-free experience from contract to closing. “Sometimes this means being part psychiatrist and part approachable adviser,” Fugate says.
Outside of their legal careers, Fogarty and Fugate engage in various philanthropic endeavors. They actively support organizations such as the Cook County Children’s Advocacy Center, Habitat for Humanity and @ Gives Back. Notes Fogarty, “We both truly believe that the help and guidance we give to the average residential consumer is a public service and vital to the health and strength of our market.”
