Fernando D. Lopez, Broker

Coldwell Banker

Fernando D. Lopez of Coldwell Banker in Barrington has always been fascinated by the real estate business, which led him to begin his career as a broker six years ago. Ever since, he’s been helping people find their dream homes in the northwestern suburbs of Illinois, while expertly guiding each client through the purchasing process in both English and Spanish. “Buying a home can be such a stressful process for some, and I definitely use humor to make clients feel at ease,” Lopez says. “However, being process-driven has allowed me to be more efficient and makes for smoother transactions.”

Using that friendly and process-driven approach, he has created wonderful relationships with clients. Those connections don’t expire once the ink has dried on the final transaction, either. Lopez keeps in touch with all of his clients, resulting in repeat customers and many referrals, which make up about 80% of his client base.

Lopez moved to the United States from Mexico when he was 5 years old. His mother instilled in him and his four siblings the importance of hard work and empathy. He applies those values in each and every interaction with clients, communicating honestly instead of going for the deal alone. “I have discouraged clients in the past from buying and selling, because I was truthful on how it would impact their short- and long-term plans,” he explains. “Those [situations] tend to be the greatest sources of referrals, because they are so appreciative for the honesty.”

Clients looking for a fixer-upper will know exactly what they are getting themselves into with Lopez, who worked in remodeling prior to starting his career as a broker. He even remodeled his family’s home in Crystal Lake.

Lopez focuses on the future, not just the present. His primary concern is seeing his clients off on the right path. “I truly believe that homeownership is the first step to building wealth,” he shares, “and I love helping clients achieve that huge milestone.”
