Doing It Alone

Doing it Alone

I’m sure you’ve already guessed that I work on my own for no one but myself and I have no agents under me either, at least not working under me that is. I am a lone spirit and an individual unlike any other. More importantly, every commission goes to me and no one in my office can steal any potential clients. It’s all for me, me, me! That and the fact that I don’t really work well with others. Nothing wrong with doing it alone, I always say. If you can’t play with others, then you have to learn to play with yourself.

Let’s get on with the gossip. First off, Jeff Lowe and Prudential Rubloff have been hogging the headlines lately, keeping everyone’s mind off the economy. What a great example of how the client is not always right. Eveyone’s trying to get a statement, but the guy is just laying too lowe to be found.

As always there have been some great events the past couple of weeks. Linda Martin with Coldwell’s Winnetka office hosted a garden party at her new listing in prestigious Indian Hill Estates. Renowned master gardener Cherie Allen presented while ladies in pearls munched on fruit and guzzled the vino. There was even a token 18-month-old guest trying hard not to destroy the home. Kids and dogs should always be removed from an open house, just standard practice.

REIA will be hosting their annual Summer “Cigar” Cocktail Party at the Erie Café with Chicago Agent as the media sponsor on August 19. With cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, the river view and lots of men in suits it is always a hit!

The Penthouses at Grand Plaza will be auctioned off by Chartwell Group out of Cleveland on Aug. 26. If you are traveling to Phoenix anytime soon Chartwell will also be auctioning off Avalon Hills conversion development. Yes, that was a blatant shoutout to one of our advertisers. It’s hot enough in Chicago, why would anyone head to Arizona right now?

I don’t know if anyone else is on Keith Keating’s e-mail list, but apparently he is really rounding up the listings on Power’s Lake in Wisconsin! If you haven’t heard of Power’s Lake, it’s smaller and less cluttered with Chicagoans than Lake Geneva.

Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor/St. Joe, Michigan hosted their Grand Opening with The Champions for a Change Golf Challenge with golfers Johnny Miller, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson joining in on the fun. With temperatures reaching almost 100 and over 4,000 spectators there was a lot of melting happening out there on the course. Sadly, the protesters led by a local Benton Harbor reverend activist who is angry the project isn’t creating enough Benton Harbor resident jobs showed up two hours late and ruined what could’ve been a grand entrance.

In the city of Chicago, second-quarter sales increased roughly 33 percent to 6,567, compared to 4,945 in the second quarter of 2009. Tell your clients this and maybe they’ll believe the market is improving. If not, then at least you’ll sound like you know something valuable.

Bdays! Chad “the new guy” Gardner celebrates today August 16, so be sure to give him a grundy. Brian Cumpton will eat cake on August 18 while Dennis J. Papiernik will celebrate on August 21. Neil Thakkar and Zachary Gasiorowski share their birthday on Aug. 22 with MOH extraordinare Anni Betts. Mike “superman” LaFido will get down on Aug. 23 and Karyn Johnson Bonder will still have three names while she gets a year older on Aug. 25.
