Desi Smith is the broker/owner of Ideal Real Estate LLC in Chicago

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job in the realty industry was as an REO broker.

Where did you grow up? I am a South Side native.

What is your favorite free-time activity? Relaxing with my husband and playing with my two dogs.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Go to the spa or get away for a quick retreat.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be an educator. I was an educator, but now I am an educator in a different manner.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Oprah. I met her once on her show, but there was no time to talk. I would love to learn what she sees as her keys to success. Also, we are both dog lovers.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Car racing or at a car show with my husband.

What do you love most about the industry? The positive impact within our communities when people are in the business for the right reasons. The right reason to me is to serve others and support them in making the largest purchase in their lives.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I distinguish myself with customer service and education. My first-time buyers appreciate the time and care I take with them to make sure they feel support throughout the entire process.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? The most difficult aspect of my job is having enough time in the day. I am looking for team members who share a similar philosophy regarding serving people and not just competing for money.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I try to go to community events and church to meet new clients.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment was seeing a client at our closing, because she was so happy that she was finally going to move into her house. For so long, she was told “no.” She is in her new home now and is so excited.

What is your favorite restaurant? Hugo’s.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago? The historic Chicago bungalow is my
absolute favorite.

What kind of car do you drive? Infiniti QX4.

Smartphone or Paper? Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Chicago? No other city can compare to Chicago. I like to go to suburbs of Las Vegas for rest.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Serve others with integrity and money will come.

What’s your favorite Real Estate iPhone/ Blackberry app?  HUD and SentriLock are the more consistently used applications.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Everything Chicago.
