In an industry built on relationships, it’s interesting how often real estate can feel transactional. Agents are taught to compete, protect their pipeline and move quickly from deal to deal. That pace can drive production, but it can also create distance. Connection becomes secondary, and collaboration an afterthought.
At the Women’s Council of REALTORS® North Shore, our focus is clear — this is a year of revival. Not just in energy, but in how we show up for one another, how we lead and how we build and help others build their businesses. Revival means taking a step back and asking what truly works — and what doesn’t. It means recognizing that while competition has its place, collaboration is what sustains us. It strengthens our networks, deepens our relationships and ultimately creates better outcomes for our clients. Because leadership in real estate is not defined by a title; it’s defined by influence. That influence is not built alone. It is shaped by the people we surround ourselves with, and I’m proud to serve alongside a board that reflects that in every way.
Our 2026 leadership team includes Paula Avenaim, Mario Cantella and Charlene Kulman, each of whom rings a balance of structure, relationship-building, consistency and vision that is already transforming how we operate and how we show up as a network. At its core, the Women’s Council of REALTORS® is a leadership development organization. Our goal is not just to host events, but to create environments where real growth happens. That means moving beyond surface-level interactions and building meaningful, lasting connections. It means learning from past challenges and implementing stronger systems. And it means recognizing that none of us can — or should — do this alone.
We are proudly aligned with the North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS® (NSBAR) and Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED), who help shape the systems and standards that guide our work. We also rely on trusted partners like Wintrust, Home Warranty of America, and Landtrust Title Services, along with service providers such as Two Men and a Truck, and legal and lifestyle partners including Ubrarescu Law, JP Legal, and Arbor Terrace. Each plays a vital role in delivering a more seamless, supportive client experience.
Through platforms like Chicago Agent magazine, we’re able to elevate these conversations and share the evolving standards of our industry more broadly. We are intentionally building a community that reflects a collaborative mindset — one where members feel supported, leadership is cultivated and every individual has a seat at the table. Revival is not about going backward; it’s about moving forward with greater clarity, stronger relationships and a shared commitment to growth.
Looking ahead, our priorities are centered on expanding our presence, strengthening our partnerships and continuing to develop leaders as we prepare for our August elections. If you’re looking to grow your business, expand your network and step more intentionally into leadership, we invite you to connect with the Women’s Council of REALTORS® North Shore. Attend an event, engage with our community and experience what’s possible when you choose collaboration over competition.
Vashti Araia is the 2026 president of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® North Shore.
