If there’s one thing Chicagoans are proud of, it’s our unique architecture. And right now, Chicagoans can vote for their favorite additions to the city skyline. This includes residential new construction, adaptive reuse and multifamily residences, alongside larger projects, like skyscrapers and civic structures.

These are just some of the nine categories featured in this year’s Lerch Bate People’s Choice Awards, presented by the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in partnership with the Chicago Architecture Center (CAC). The awards honor recent buildings by Chicago architects.

Online voting is live through 5 p.m. on Sept. 18 with the winners revealed later that evening at Designight 2023: AIA Chicago’s awards program, taking place at the Harris Theater.

In the Multifamily Residential category, city nominees include the Lucy Gonzalez Parsons Apartments, the Peabody School Apartments, the Pullman Artspace Lofts and the
Tribune Tower Conversion, plus INTRO in Cleveland.

In the Single-Family Residential – New Construction category: Solar House and The Brickyard, plus Chicago Residence in Southwest Michigan, Casa Rosita in Costa Rica and Susan’s House in San Antonio.

And, in the Single-Family Residential – Renovation/Adaptive Reuse category: Unit 8408, Wicker Park Courtyard House and Yannell PHIUS+ Residence, plus Color Forward in La Grange and Lakeside Midcentury in Southwest Michigan.

“Chicago is the city of architecture, and the AIA Chicago Lerch Bates People’s Choice Awards are a celebration of some of the best work in our city and across the country.” AIA Chicago Executive Director Jen Masengarb said in a press release. Noting how Chicago residents care ““deeply care” about design, she said, “These awards are a testament to the creativity, innovation and dedication of local architects.”
