Wheaton is gaining national attention after ranking No. 10 on Realtor.com’s list of the Hottest ZIP Codes in the country.
The 60187 ZIP code is highlighted as one of the top in the country, where “buyer interest is strongest and homes are flying off the market.”
According to the report, buyers in these markets bring stronger financial profiles than the national norm, with higher average down payments and credit scores. As such, the median household income in Wheaton is $129,694. The average down payment is 18.3% or about $98,533.
In Wheaton, houses stayed a median of 25 days on the market with a median listing price of $575,000. Seventy-seven percent of Wheaton’s listing viewership comes from within the Chicago metro.
Listings in the top 10 ZIPs saw more traffic than the typical listing nationwide. On average, homes received between 3.0 and 5.3 times the number of views per property compared to the U.S. norm in the first half of 2026. Homes also moved much faster, selling between 30 and 42 days quicker than the national norm.
Wheaton’s ZIP code was the lone exception among the 10 hottest ZIP codes, where homes sold below asking price, with a sale-to-list ratio of 99.7%. However, it still outperformed the national average and the broader Chicago market during the first half.
In addition, the median year built across the 10 ZIPs ranges from 1939 to 1987, averaging 1970, or about a decade older than the all-ZIP average. This suggests buyers are drawn to larger, older homes in established neighborhoods that offer easy access to a major metropolitan area, in this case, Chicago.
Wheaton is also priced above its surrounding metro, where buyers are reportedly looking for “suburban tranquility” without giving up job access or infrastructure.
The Midwest continues to dominate the list, while the South and West remain absent for a fourth consecutive year, reflecting continued demand in regions where supply is constrained.
