Melanie Miller, Real Estate Agent, Keller Williams ONE Chicago

by Chicago Agent

Number of years in real estate:
I have been involved in real estate since 2018, when I became a landlord/investor at the age of 24. I’ve been licensed to assist others attain similar goals since 2020.

Describe your look:
I would describe my look as trendy yet classic. I pride myself on looking put-together no matter if I am showing a million-dollar home or an apartment rental. My look is inspirational and creative.

What do you consider a “fashion don’t”?
I consider just wearing something based on it being designer or a brand name a fashion don’t.

What style has come back into fashion that you think shouldn’t have?
I’m really loving fashion right now, it’s a culmination of several different decades with that perfect inclusion of clean and modern.

What item of clothing gets you the most compliments?
I think my shoes always get me the most compliments, plus the overall way I pull pieces together that truly flatters my body type.

What is a fashion crime you have committed in the past?
I’ve purchased items that I’ve only worn once! I consider that a crime because the environmental results of manufacturing of clothing items should be discussed more and handled more carefully!

Where are your favorite clothing stores or brands?
My favorite brands right now are Black- and women-owned brands. I am a huge stan for Hanifa right now!

What fashion accessory do you feel naked without?
I feel naked without a belt. Whether I’m wearing jeans or a skirt, I feel like I need to wear a belt to really accent the waist line.

Who is your style icon?
Don’t judge me but Kanye West. I think he’s very innovative in his looks and his biggest muse Kim K made an iconic duo.

What decade or time period had the best fashion in your opinion?
I love ‘60s fashion! The mini skirts, the animal print and flare jeans are still super flattering. I think it was just a great era for women’s fashion, especially.

What’s the most expensive or meaningful accessory or piece of clothing you’ve ever acquired? Do you still have it?
I think one of the most meaningful accessories I’ve gotten was a pink Gucci Diana Mini Tote — it was a wedding gift from my husband making it super meaningful.

What item in your closet do you wear the most?
Probably my Gucci belts! I need my belt!!

Does your style reflect your personal brand? If so, how?
Absolutely, I’ve always lived by the motto that if you look good, you perform good. My brand is “MelMillionaire,” so I like to make sure I look a million bucks every time I’m facing a client. I think clients appreciate that when they see me, I’m well put together, I put effort into my appearance and they know I will put effort into their real estate goals and transactions.

What is your style advice for other people in the industry?
Just do what makes you feel comfortable. Not everyone needs to throw on a designer pair of shoes to show a home. Most importantly, just look well put together and look professional.
