Redfin’s own Clayton Jirak has been selected to receive the 2014 EverGreen Award from the National Association of Realtors (NAR’s) Green REsource Council. The real estate agent is one of only five individuals in the nation to win the award, and the only winner from the Midwest.

Winners of the 2014 EverGreen Award are selected by an independent panel of green real estate professionals. Jirak, who has a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois-Chicago, was nominated for this annual award based on his commitment to sustainable living and dedication to greening his local community.

“It’s an honor to receive this award. Reducing auto dependency, promoting walkable neighborhoods, and living more sustainably are principles that I promote in both my professional career and personal life,” Jirak said, “I’m always happy to share my knowledge with clients, whether it’s helping them find a home near public transportation, searching for a neighborhood friendly to cyclists, or finding a home that uses green technology to lower energy costs.”

As an active member of his community in Chicago, Jirak has served as a board member on the Ravenswood Community Council (RCC), which works to promote a vibrant local economy through community involvement and small business improvement, for three years. His work at the RCC has also helped enhance the Ravenswood community as a destination neighborhood for those looking to purchase homes in a walkable, transit-friendly neighborhood.

Jirak has participated as a volunteer for the community planning and design phase of an elevated rails-to-trails project in Chicago known as The 606. He is accredited by the Congress for the New Urbanism and received the LEED Green Associate designation from the United State Green Building Council. Most recently, Jirak was named to the 2014-2015 Chicago Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network (YPN) Advisory Board.

He will be honored during the EverGreen Networking and Awards Reception on Nov. 9 at the NAR’s annual conference in New Orleans. For more information about the event, click here.
