New Condo Proposal for Lakeview: Good News or Bad?

by Chicago Agent

The 46th Ward Zoning and Development Committee will be meeting on November 10, where, among other topics up for discussion, the committee will discuss the recently proposed condo tower to be constructed at Halsted and Bradley in East Lakeview.

The condo development, which will be located at 3750 N Halsted, has received mixed reviews from Lakeview residents and those nearby the neighborhood.

“The project would [be] very bad news for residents living in the area. The units are mostly studio and 1 bedroom condos, and very likely would drive down existing home values in the area,” says Bryan Miller, Sales Director at Morningstar, Inc.

Most of the reviews of the proposal have come from online blogs and forums, where Lakeview residents have been sharing links, enthusing and venting about the possibility of the new condo building. Some, agreeing with Miller, believe that the development will bring down the value of surrounding residences. Others believe this building will boost the look and feel of the neighborhood.

At the time of completion, the building will have 15 stories, the first two of which will be reserved for retail space. The apartments will be predominantly studio and one bedroom units, with a few two bedroom units, along with balconies, mixed in.

The meeting to be held on the 10th will present further information on the proposal, to assist residents in taking an informed stand on the issue.
