Susan Wyle Schreiber, Realtor

Baird & Warner

Highland Park

What was your first job in the realty industry?
My first job in the industry was when I was in seventh grade. I put listings in listing books, made appointments and typed for Lotta Ringer, a North Shore real estate pioneer.

Who inspires you?
My mother, Pat Wyle, the grand dame of real estate on the North Shore for over 60 years.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
Tennis and golf

How did you learn the business?
I was born with a silver real estate spoon in my mouth.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Paperwork and project management, which is why I have a chief operating officer/Realtor, Pat Wexler, who makes our office hum.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
In 1990, my partner and I chose to specialize in new construction on the North Shore. All the real estate gurus told us we would starve because there was no new construction or land to develop. We definitely were pioneers and in the forefront of the tear down craze. Another major challenge and accomplishment was relinquishing my fear of leaving a highly-successful real estate career to start developing and building expensive spec homes on the North Shore. We were involved with developing, designing and/or building over 20 beautiful homes, a legacy of which I am very proud.

What is your favorite restaurant?
My kitchen

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago?
I like the classic, timeless architecture of 1550 State Parkway.

What kind of car do you drive?
Honda Accord, soon to be a bicycle

BlackBerry, Palm or paper?
Currently, I’m suffering with a Treo. I miss my BlackBerry and have scraps of paper everywhere.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
If you don’t love it, get out of it.
