Richard Pietranek Sr., President and CEO – Deer Point Homes

After working for Walgreens Corporation and Austin Engineering Co., Rich Pietranek Sr. took his first residential development job with Miller Builders as a
construction superintendent. From there, he moved to Kennedy Brothers, where he served as a project manager for the next four years.
In 1976, in addition to his full-time job, Pietranek founded the Joseph Allen Construction Company, which built semi-custom homes in the northwest Chicago Market.
Pietranek joined Northbrook Development Corporation in 1979, which eventually became Sundance Homes, where he served as a senior VP.
In 1991, Pietranek used his residential development experience to launch Deer Point Homes. Pietranek wanted his company to be the “better builder,” and, in order to do so, made unexpected touches, like window sills and integrated storage solutions standard in Deer Point communities.
The Ponds of Bull Valley – A community of 219 single-family homes in northwest suburban Woodstock, The Ponds of Bull Valley has nine floor plans measuring 1,656 to 2,870 square feet with three to four bedrooms, two to two and one-half bathrooms, three-car garages and full basements, per plan. Half of the homes overlook the fairways of the adjacent private Bull Valley Golf Club.
Shepherds Crossing – A community of 238 single-family homes in north suburban Zion, Shepherds Corssing’s residences range in size from 1,575 to 2,467 square feet and offer two to five bedrooms, two to two and one- half bathrooms, partial or full unfinished basements and attached two-car garages. The community offers 11 floor plans, with three to four elevations per plan for a total of 36 exterior styles.
Shepherds Point – Shepherds Point is a community of 222 townhomes in north suburban Zion, adjacent to Shepherds Crossing. Four floor plans are available, with 1,290 to 1,871 square feet of living space, two to three bedrooms, one to two and one-half bathrooms, balconies and attached two-car garages.
Sunset Point – A community of 82 single-family homes in Joliet, Sunset Point has two-story and ranch designs. Floor plans measure from 1,153 to 2,167 square feet and have three to four bedrooms, one and one-half to two and one-half bathrooms and attached two-car garages. Sunset Point is the only new single-family community in Joliet where all homes are base-priced under $225,000.

Water Stone – Water Stone is a community of 41 semi-custom homes overlooking Lake Napa Suwe in north suburban Wauconda.
Cranberry Lake – Cranberry Lake is a four-phase community of single-family homes and townhomes in northwest suburban Hainesville.
This past spring, Deer Point Homes and the Wounded Heroes Foundation formed a new partnership, Homes for Heroes. The partnership was established to build homes at affordable prices for servicemen and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been severely injured due to conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
The partnership’s first home was built at the Deer Point Homes community, Shepherds Crossing in Zion, for Miguel Delgado, a retired Marine Sergeant from Waukegan and his family. In order to make the home more affordable, Pietranek reached out to his contractors and partners for help, who responded with incredible generosity. As a result, they raised enough in donations to build a second home at Shepherds Crossing for a retired Army Sergeant, Gabriel Garriga.
Deer Point Homes will also be building a third home in the spring at Sunset Point in Joliet.
Pietranek is the president of his neighborhood’s homeowners association and a member of the University of Illinois Family Business Council.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing racquetball and working on home improvement projects. He also loves to travel with his wife, Marlene. The Pietraneks have four children and three grandchildren.
