Many years ago, a simple break from graduate school led Stacey Roberts to discover her lifelong calling in lending. She initially took a job processing mortgages just to recharge but quickly realized that she enjoyed the challenges of the mortgage industry. After three years in processing and underwriting, she moved to Chicago to become a loan officer. Now with 27 years of experience behind her, she serves as a senior mortgage consultant at Wintrust Mortgage.

Roberts specializes in helping first-time homebuyers and guiding clients through down-payment assistance programs. Though her primary market is Chicago and its suburbs, she has closed loans in more than 25 states. Clients consistently praise her patience and willingness to walk them through the entire process — from preapproval to closing — and note her responsiveness and calming presence.

Known for creating a cheerful, stress-free environment, Roberts takes time to set expectations and explain the process up front. Her deep understanding of underwriting and product guidelines helps her provide accurate advice and smooth closings. Most of her clients come through referrals from real estate agents, attorneys and past clients, which underscores the trust she builds with each transaction.

Roberts’ career is punctuated by well-deserved accolades. Indeed, she is a multiyear member of the Wintrust Mortgage President’s Circle and the Wintrust Mortgage Honors Circle, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority once named her the Community Lender of the Year. She is also a recipient of honors and distinctions from Scotsman Guide and the National Association of Minority Mortgage Bankers of America.

Outside of lending, Roberts enjoys a well-rounded life with her husband, who shares her passion for motorcycle riding. She credits her joyful personal life and her relationships with family, friends and clients as the keys to her long-term success in the mortgage business.
