Whether she’s helping first-time buyers secure the home of their dreams or ensuring sellers get the best offer possible, Mary Cossey is diligent and passionate about the business of real estate. Recognized as a top agent in her office in 2023, Cossey specializes in the Lake County, Indiana, cities of St. John, Gary, Merrillville, Crown Point, Hammond and Dyer. She is also a 2023 International Diamond Society member.
As someone who was born and raised in Lake County, Cossey has extensive knowledge of the area. Additionally, her previous experience working for public utility companies and municipal governments gives her an insight into the inner workings of a town and sets her apart from other agents.
Cossey earned her license in 2011 and divided her time between her real estate and corporate employment. But in 2020, she took the leap into real estate full time and hasn’t looked back. “I love real estate, and it is one of the most fulfilling careers I have ever had,” Cossey shares.
Her enthusiasm for the field and commitment to continued learning are evident to her clients, who praise Cossey’s honesty, hard work and extensive knowledge and routinely refer their friends and family to her. She prioritizes clients’ long-term satisfaction over making a quick sale and is a strong advocate for their needs. “I am very protective of my clients and sometimes need to become assertive when dealing with lenders, sellers or buyers,” she says. “I am willing to go the extra mile to ensure that my clients are happy.”
Cossey has served on the executive board of several nonprofits, including Gary Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Gary branch of the NAACP. After learning to swim, she challenged herself to complete a triathlon, which combines running, cycling and swimming events. For her 50th birthday, she took a girls’ trip to Puerto Rico and ran a half-marathon.
