A love for homes and architecture that began in high school, a college degree in civil engineering, and a client-services background developed at a global consulting firm all came together for Kelly Carlson in 2020 when she embarked on her career in real estate. Carlson joined Engel & Völkers after earning her license. Although admittedly terrified, she quit her consulting job and jumped in with both feet.
Now, she relishes every opportunity to leverage her background to advise clients, mostly first-time buyers and sellers, during some of life’s biggest decisions. “There is so much more that goes into the home buying and selling process than the transaction itself,” she explains. “It starts with a meaningful connection between my clients and me, whether it’s over coffee, a cocktail, or a walk through Lincoln Park.”
Her consulting background allows Carlson, who once never imagined herself in a sales-oriented career, to bring a unique perspective to residential sales. “My focus is on being in service to others rather than on my sales metrics. This career is full of ups and downs, but I’ve learned to not allow that to shake my core value of advising clients, doing my absolute best, and showing up every day, even when it feels difficult,” she shares.
In just 2 ½ years as an agent, Carlson has already won multiple awards from Engel & Völkers, including Chicago 2021 Rookie of the Year and the Americas Onyx Award in 2021 and 2022. A past nominee for Chicago Agent Magazine’s Rookie of the Year award, she was also named to this year’s National Association of Realtors 30 Under 30 Class. She credits her mentoring relationship with Jennifer Ames for helping her build the foundation to succeed in real estate.
When she’s not assisting clients, the certified yoga instructor finds her zen in her mindfulness practice. She also serves on the associate’s board for the social services nonprofit Sarah’s Circle in Chicago and donates a portion of each commission to local charities.
