A broker with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, Katherine Karvelas holds two master’s degrees and is known for her leadership, solid communication skills and networking ability. “My approach is compassionate, research-based and data-driven,” she explains. “My clients also benefit from my strong network of supporters, as I am able to connect clients and associates who have, in turn, supported one another or collaborated with each other on alternative endeavors.”
Named as a top 1% broker for her work in Chicagoland, and ranked among the top 1.5% of brokers nationwide, Karvelas has been featured in Crain’s Chicago Business, The Real Deal, Chicago Magazine and MSNBC. She also supports local nonprofits and serves as a board member for UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale. “I certainly enjoy the negotiation process, structuring and closing deals and also the autonomy I have when thinking creatively to get the deal done, which is one of the best aspects of my business,” she says. “I am incredibly grateful to work with people from all walks of life, many of whom become dear friends or business associates and partners.”
With a prior career in education, Karvelas taught high school before transitioning into becoming a school- and district-level administrator. She then used her expertise to teach graduate school. When her life drastically changed, she decided to pursue her passion and focus on business and real estate. “I always taught my students that it was up to them to ‘grab the bull by the horns’ and do with their lives as they wished … never to let life’s adversities define them, but to grow from those challenges,” Karvelas shares. “I knew what I was capable of and I was the only one who could make my life what I had always dreamed it could be. I took one giant, terrifying leap forward and never looked back. Here I am today, continually looking to what is next, what is beyond the horizon.”
Karvelas is known as a trusted and fiercely loyal partner to her clients, and also for her determination and commitment to success. “I honed my craft by learning from the best in the industry while staying true to myself. First, be a leader of yourself, only then can you grow to lead others,” she says. Looking forward, she’s planning to travel more often, while also welcoming new opportunities and collaborations.
