With 20,000 members, the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors has served communities in DuPage County, Lake County and western and southern suburban Cook County since 1921. Now the group is making exciting strides to cultivate dynamic professionals and uplifting communities. Many of these efforts are due to the partnership of President Debbie Pawlowicz and CEO John Gormley.
With 25 years of real estate experience behind him, Gormley believes in what he calls “the ability to help achieve consensus — a shared vision and common goals — among diverse thinkers,” and he knows how to create that consensus by building a culture of collaboration and excellence within Mainstreet. “With an organization the size of ours, we need great staff working with great volunteer leaders,” he says. “We’re blessed with both.” Gormley is known for creating events, like leadership academies and training retreats, where he brings together experts to solve problems facing Mainstreet’s members.
Pawlowicz brings positivity and integrity to the forefront of Mainstreet’s mission. “Clients know that I do care and will be there for them,” she says. “I am honest and ethical and want nothing but the best for them. And, hopefully, we will have some laughs along the way.”
Pawlowicz explains that being the president of the largest association in the state of Illinois has been her biggest professional achievement of the past year. She’s enjoyed witnessing the fruits of her efforts to get organization members involved in civic opportunities. “[I’ve seen] the positive outcomes of my special initiative of empowering our members to participate in government meetings, serve on committees/advisory boards and even pursue elected office,” she relays. “It is a great way to drive public policy as it relates to private property rights and have our Realtor brand recognition and success spread even further.”
