John Burks, Real Estate Professional

@properties

Helping clients find or sell their home has become John Burks’ passion project. It’s aided by his previous careers in project management and film production: On the project management side, he became a taskmaster, developing highly effective communication skills; working in film production, he learned how to gather together different departments made up of people with all types of personalities to produce great outcomes. Coincidentally, he applies all of those skills and more every day in his role as a Realtor with
@properties.

Burks decided to become a broker after someone suggested it was an ideal fit for him, given his outgoing personality and strong negotiation skills. “Nothing compares to helping clients experience the joys of homeownership,” he says. “It warms my heart to see people start a family in the home I helped them find.”

An expert on the transaction process, Burks focuses on educating clients in a wish to empower them to make their own decisions, rather than looking to him for all the answers. During the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, clients were referred to him who were in a major time crunch. Their previous agent had sent them homes to consider from the MLS and Top Agent Network that did not fit their criteria, leaving them feeling disappointed and anxious about achieving their goal. “I dedicated two weeks solely to finding them a home without ever meeting them in person,” he says. “Through my network of colleagues, I was able to find them a home that wasn’t on any of the pocket listing websites, and they were ecstatic to close on it three weeks later.”

Receiving @properties’ Outstanding Achievement award in 2018 and 2019, appearing on “House Hunters” and coaching his Garfield Park Little League team to the championship were among the recent highlights of Burks’ life. Active in his community, Burks is a member of the Albion College alumni board and the Special Olympics event management committee.
