When Dawn McKenna turned her hobby of touring homes into a career, she quickly became an award-winning agent. Named Coldwell Banker’s Rookie of the Year in 2003, she has since closed over $2 billion in transactions. But as the founder of the Dawn McKenna Group at Coldwell Banker Realty, she’s most proud of her growing team, which now encompasses five offices and 20 agents.
“Buyers say that seeing homes with me can be fun, exciting and tiring,” she says. “But it is almost always fruitful.” A straight shooter, sellers hear what they need to do to get the best price for their home, even if it means heavy decluttering and sending pets to live with relatives.
McKenna is a founding member of the Coldwell Banker International Luxury Alliance, as well as a member of Luxury Presence, an invite-only group of top agents. These organizations enable the team to market listings and network with professionals worldwide. Although the Dawn McKenna Group specializes in luxury buyers and sellers in Chicago; Chicago’s western suburbs and North Shore; and Naples, Florida, it also assists renters.
Team member and Western Springs expert Lauren Walz has the ability to answer a client’s question before they realize they have one. “They truly value my opinion,” she says. “They know they will always receive honest and direct communication from me.”
Fellow agent and Lake Forest expert Annie Royster Lenzke joined her mother in the business 13 years ago after leaving an account management position at Leo Burnett, a career that taught her how to effectively brand listings. “I approach marketing a home differently because of it,” she says.
Indeed, marketing backgrounds are common among this team. Before she became a real estate agent, Winnetka expert Katie Moor helped Fortune 500 companies and startups achieve sales goals through effective marketing. “We’re not just selling four walls and a roof,” she says. “We’re selling a lifestyle and creating an experience.”
