A 2.3-acre lakefront estate in Winnetka sold for $31,250,000 on Aug. 29, smashing the previous record for the highest-priced residential resale in Illinois by almost $10 million.
@properties Christie’s International Real Estate luxury broker Jena Radnay represented both the buyer and seller, investor Muneer Satter.
Located at 419 Sheridan Road, the 22-room mansion was built by the son of magazine publisher Henry Haven Windsor in 1929. The “Windsor House” spans 13,894 square feet and offers seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and four half-baths.
The previous sales record for a single residential property in Chicagoland was just under $22 million, @properties Christie’s International said, citing Midwest Real Estate Data and public records. So far this year, four other lakefront homes in Winnetka have sold for between $9.5 million and $12 million, and Radnay was involved in them as well.
“This iconic home marks such a special chapter in my career,” Radnay said. “I never imagined I would have the privilege of representing a property of this caliber, and it was an honor to see its legacy carried on to the next generation.”
Windsor House was listed with an asking price of $35 million in August 2024. It went under contract to an undisclosed buyer in February. Satter bought the home in 2002 and completed a full restoration. In 2012, he acquired the adjacent northern property and turned it into an outdoor recreation area with an organic botanical garden, custom-built heated pergola, bluestone patios, a fire pit and a zero-edge pool and spa overlooking Lake Michigan.
Beyond the pool, the North Shore estate boasts a 223-foot private sandy beach on Lake Michigan, a boardwalk and a commercial-grade boathouse that can accommodate a ski boat, jet skis and other watercraft.
