Making The Right Choice

by Chicago Agent

If you’ve ever stopped by the Chicago Agent offices, you’ve probably met the office mascot. He’s also known as my shadow, the vacuum or my dog, Luther. If you haven’t ever met him, you’ve surely heard me talk about him. Lucky for me, I work in a building and for a company where a Shih Tzu in the office is no big deal, and actually quite commonplace. This is just one of the many perks that I’ve found working where I work.

Everyone has a choice of where to hang their hat when they start out in real estate. Sometimes it’s an instant fit, other times agents have to move around a bit before finding the right spot. Also, a change in focus can mean a change in companies. The same is true of any industry, not just real estate. Every company in every capacity has something different to offer, and finding the perfect environment is a part of the whole process.

In our current economic climate, it’s more important than ever to find a place that fits your needs. Whether you need additional guidance from a managing broker or prefer to head out in the real estate world on your own, the choice is yours and yours alone.

In our cover story, we spoke with a number of agents that are both on their own and with larger franchises, to get an idea of where the differences lie to help you discover your perfect company match. And if you’re thinking about starting your own franchise or independent company, we’ve got advice for you to take that leap as well.

In addition to having the luxury of a fuzzy footrest during most of the day, I‘m pleased that Chicago Agent is comprised of a tight-knit group of experts who enjoy the industry, and simply enjoy working together. Also, if there isn’t a meeting or no one is popping by, I’ve been known to sport a ponytail and Illini shirt to the office, and (gasp) not on a Friday.

In the end, you have to weigh your options, and make the right choice for you and your business, because that’s all that matters.
