From Chicagoland to the national market

by Jacqui Mueller

In this issue, we’re diving into one of our most anticipated features of the year: the results of the Truth About Agents survey. Our annual report takes a close look at how real estate professionals across Chicagoland are performing today, from income trends and training priorities to client demographics, new construction, team structures and AI usage. More than just a snapshot, it offers a way to measure your own business, spot shifts in the market and see how your peers are adjusting in real time.

Beyond the cover story, this issue highlights several changes shaping the industry. Midwest Real Estate Data is moving toward an “open MLS” model, a shift that would eventually allow both Realtor and non-Realtor participants to access the MLS. While the change is significant, it will be implemented gradually through local associations.

We’re also looking at evolving homeowner behavior. More sellers are choosing to rent out their properties, and according to Zillow, that trend may not have peaked. In fact, 2.3% of homes listed for rent were recently listed for sale, just shy of the six-year high of 2.4% seen in late 2022.

At the same time, mobility is picking up. According to American Home Shield, 41% of Americans plan to move in 2026, led by younger generations, including 59% of Gen Z.

As always, Chicago Agent is here to keep you informed — on what’s happening locally and across the national real estate landscape.
