Fun With Sales Centers

by Chicago Agent

By Agent X
A little-known fact about Agent X is that I used to work in a sales center. I’m sure you’re dying to know which, but no way that secret’s coming out. I can tell you that Agent X has had a lot of fun in sales centers over the years, maybe a little too much fun at times.

Many of you know that working in a sales center isn’t always a ton of laughs. There will be slow days where one person strolls in and gives you the stink eye immediately, and then there are days where you are speaking with a genuinely interested buyer and then Susie Starry Eyes walks in with no intention of buying a thing and distracts you from the task at hand. And of course there are times where your entrance is a revolving door and you never get a chance to breathe, let alone sit down and give your tootsies a rest.

I did learn over the years that the best way to make a sale is to be as knowledgeable as possible and charming as hell. Even that one day when I had the mumps and a fever I put on a great outfit and a happy face and sold three units in an hour. I’m still a legend in that development, and they have no idea that when my significant other kicked me out for a few days that model served as my salvation.

Enough about me, let’s get to the good stuff. This just in: Frankel and Giles will be buying up the Coldwell Bankers of the South Loop to accommodate a new national brokerage franchise to be headed by the wonderful Jim Psyhogios, VP of sales with F&G. Rumor is they are looking to bring on 50-60 new agents before the end of October and 100 by the end of the year – anyone looking to make a move?

Word on the street is that as of June 1 KB Homes has been trying to get out of dodge. According to one of their preferred lenders, with only one community in Crystal Lake they’re desperate to get rid of, drastic price cuts and incentives are on the way.

Gotta feel bad for the turtles when you hear Terrapin is getting hit with two more foreclosure lawsuits.

For those of you on the edge of your seats, Peter Braun’s much-anticipated P3 New Media will soon be available to Realtors citywide.

Now for events, and you better believe Agent X was at every one of these and more, even though a nap in a sales center would’ve been better than some. Countrywide hosted its monthly “Best of the Best” presentation at the East Bank Club on July 9. Despite the ever-so-exciting topic of SB1167, the place was packed. Shout out to the table of Coldwell agents reading my column in the corner.

Thanks to the rain on July 7, Keller Williams had to reschedule its annual Opening of the Terrace at the Peninsula for July 14, which was a bummer because Agent X was dressed to kill.

RE/MAX Vision hosted its seventh annual luau and pig roast in Elmwood Park on July 12. Even though pig heads scare Agent X, I was pleased to donate to the Children’s Memorial Hospital – this might have something to do with the famous Mai Tai contest.

National City will host their Roadshow at Navy Pier this Wednesday from 9:00 – 12:00. The free parking is reason enough to go!

This Thursday is going to be a doozy for Agent X: REIA will explore the senior housing market at Maggiano’s Little Italy at 7:45 a.m. and coffee better be included or Agent X might do some snoring, North Pointe Group is hosting a broker’s open at Lakefront Party outside of Gurnee to announce the proposed construction of five new luxury lakefront homes, MCL is hosting a grand opening of Park View Models, Sussex and Reilly’s broker open at NXXT on Chicago will be for their project at 2701 W. Chicago, CAR’s annual golf outing will go on throughout the day, Baer Lofts will host a rooftop party and last, but never least, Harbor Isles Resort and Marina will be sponsoring the monthly R.E. Connect at Flatwater Grill. Whew. Agent X will indeed be three places at once that day.

Running out of room, so birthdays: Pat Mitchell, June 30; Gary Willis, July 2; Kimberly Kirincic-Yasak, July 3; Pete Picchietti and Peggy Klimek Jul. 7; Lori Moses, July 8; and Lori Miller, July 9. Be sure to give Bill Norwood and Bernie Schmidt a pinch today, July 14, and Leslie Tilton will celebrate tomorrow on July 15.
