Naperville and Aurora rank among safest cities in the nation

by Emily Mack

Two Illinois areas ranked high on SmartAsset’s list of the safest cities in America: Naperville and Aurora.

It can be tough for homebuyers to determine the safest locations, so SmartAsset looked at five key metrics: violent crime, property crime, vehicular mortality rate, drug poisoning mortality rate and the rate of excessive drinking. Based on those stats, Naperville came in at No. 14 and Aurora came in at No. 24.

Notably, Naperville reported the lowest property crime rate of the whole study, just 320 crimes per 100,000 residents, and the study’s second-lowest violent crime rate: 61 crimes per 100,000 residents.

Meanwhile, Aurora had the third-lowest property crime rate of the study with 802 crimes per 100,000 residents.
