Baird & Warner helps construct Habitat for Humanity homes on the South Side

On Sept. 23, nearly 50 volunteers from Baird & Warner gathered to help construct four homes by Habitat for Humanity Chicago on the city’s South Side.

Organized by Good Will Works, the company’s philanthropic arm, these volunteers came to the Greater Grand Crossing and West Pullman neighborhoods to help build. Two Habitat for Humanity homes are currently under construction in each area, and the Baird & Warner staff helped with wall framing, flooring and roofing.

“It was very rewarding to come together as a company, roll up our sleeves and work side by side … and see these future residences take shape before our eyes,” Tanesha House, director of social impact at Baird & Warner, said in a press release.

Once completed, each of the four houses will include three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car garage and modern finishes. When construction completes in early 2023, they will become available with an affordable mortgage to local families who fit the Habitat for Humanity criteria.

Baird & Warner is a longtime collaborator of Habitat for Humanity Chicago and earlier this year, Good Will Works donated $500,000 to the cause.

“The pillars of our Good Will Works initiative are fair housing, racial equity and financial empowerment, which are carried out through volunteering and fundraising,” House said. “Our work with Habitat for Humanity Chicago aligns perfectly with those goals.”

“Whether building affordable homes or educating homebuyers, Baird & Warner is honored to partner with Habitat for Humanity Chicago to empower homeownership on the South Side and in communities across Chicagoland,” Baird & Warner President and CEO Steve Baird said, reflecting on the communal experience.
