by Jason Porterfield

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago has promoted managing broker John Lawrence to manage the company’s Elmhurst office.

Lawrence has served as managing broker of Berkshire Hathaway’s River Forest and Oak Park offices. He was born and raised in Oak Park-River Forest, and his family’s roots in the village go back nearly 100 years. Lawrence attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, then returned to Oak Park-River Forest to raise his family and  launch his career. He was a middle school and a high school basketball coach before starting his own brokerage.

“I’m thrilled to share the good news that John will lead our Elmhurst office,” said Diane Glass, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago. “An accomplished manager, John created his own successful brokerage and is highly regarded among agents who appreciate his sage counsel and great ideas. And, he is also an active community member serving on industry and philanthropic boards. I am confident that he will be a great fit to lead our Elmhurst agents in this expanded role.”

Lawrence has been recognized numerous times for work on behalf of his profession and his community. He served on the board of Oak Park Area Association of Realtors from 2008 to 2020, was treasurer from 2012 to 2014, vice president from 2014 to 2016 and president from 2016 to 2018. He received the association’s Walter R. James Community Service Award in 2012 and was named Realtor of the Year in 2013.

He was vice president of the Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2011 and president from 2012 to 2013. He was a member of the chamber’s board of directors from 2009 to 2014 and again in 2019. He received the board’s George Lytle Award for Dedication and Service in 2014 and its Presidential Leadership Award in 2015. Lawrence has been a member of the board of directors for Opportunity Knocks since 2011, receiving the Director of the Year award in 2012.

“I am really looking forward to getting to know the Elmhurst agents to learn how I can best support them right now as we’re in our spring market and an exciting time of year,” Lawrence said. “I am passionate about helping agents achieve their goals and helping them meet the changing needs of their clients. I can’t wait to get started.”
