There are many factors that influence how residents will vote in this election. It’s a unique election in many ways, but for real estate professionals, there is one way in particular that this election cycle may be uniquely frustrating: a lack of effective discussion around important issues in housing.

At the national level, affordability, builder regulations and lending reform are pressing issues; on top of those, property taxes, Illinois’ ongoing budget crisis, crime and inventory are of immediate concern here in Chicagoland. Our cover story examines the many local and national issues affecting homeownership in Chicagoland. To supplement, we also have stories covering the presidential candidates’ approach to housing, a look at RPAC activity, results from our political survey, and a detailed Q&A with Cook County Recorder of Deeds Karen Yarbrough, whose office faces a possible merger with the Cook County clerk’s office pending a referendum that will be on the ballot this November.
