Legos Recreate Chicago’s Downtown Area

by Rachel Mazanec

We’ve seen boxes of Legos turn into magnificent creations, from replicas of sports stadiums to race cars to life-sized people, and this replica is no less spectacular. An Illinois Institute of Technology’s College of Architecture student, Rocco Buttliere, has spent five years recreating Chicago’s Loop using legos, starting with the Trump Tower in 2010. Buttliere is now in the process of completing the north end of the Loop and parts of River North and Lakeshore East, though he expects it will take nearly a decade to complete the entire downtown area. Learn more about this Lego recreation.

  • Bob Parris says:

Thanks for doing a story on this amazing creator. As a local LEGO aficionado, I have watched Rocco’s building career from the time he was a little kid and admired his creations for years. I imagine great things ahead for him as an architect.
