Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED) Makes it Easier to Buy Green

MRED offers customers more green options.

Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED), the Chicagoland Multiple Listing Service (MLS), announced it has introduced additional green design, disclosure and data verification to its connectMLS system. The “green” expansion is to further enhance the ability of MRED’s real estate professionals to provide the environmental information consumers need and want.

MRED customers now have new green information field choices and may upload as many as 14 different green disclosure documents.

This isn’t MRED’s first time taking steps to making it easier for homebuyers to go green.

“As early as 2009 MRED was a pioneer in bringing national attention to green fields in the MLS,” said Russ Bergeron, CEO of MRED. “Our latest upgrade represents the next step, with enhancements for existing homes and increased data verification. This also reflects MRED’s continuing focus on delivering ‘public service apps’ such as Down Payment Resource and the Short Sale Assistance Desk that benefit the consumer as well as the real estate professional.”

MRED actually confirms that the uploaded forms are in fact “green” disclosures, and by doing so MRED’s Compliance Department insures that the data entered into the green fields is verified and of the highest quality.

“Including energy efficiency data on homes for sale in Chicagoland is an innovative and important step by MRED,” said Anne Evens, Executive Director of CNT Energy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of energy efficiency and saving consumers money. “Multiple listing services do more than just provide listing data – they empower homeownership decisions.

By going with more green options, home buyers can dramatically reduce their utility bills.

“Utility bills are often a substantial portion of the monthly cost of owning a home. Today’s additions by MRED ensure that consumers in Chicagoland will have access to the best data on green and energy efficient homes for sale and make more confident home buying choices,” said Evens.

MRED made the system changes after recommendations by a team of MRED customers from across its coverage area, including agents with green certifications.

“Value is so important in the current market, and energy efficiency is a great way to stand out with value,” said Laura Stukel, EcoBroker and NAR Green agent at LW Reedy Real Estate in Elmhurst. “MRED is keeping up with important trends to make it easier for buyers to find homes with energy efficiency remodeling. Being able to search for the Illinois Home Performance with ENERGY STAR certificate rewards sellers for smart improvements and ensures buyers they are getting a more efficient home.”
