The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Governor Pat Quinn will honor Jack Amberg, 26-year veteran of the U.S. Army and mortgage banker at Chicago Bancorp, as the December 2011 Illinois Veteran of the Month for his commitment and dedication to duty in serving his community, Illinois and the nation. Amberg will be recognized at a special ceremony this Friday, December 16, at 1 p.m. at the Pritzker Military Library located at 104 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

Last summer, Amberg joined Chicago Bancorp as a mortgage banker after serving as senior director of veterans programs at the McCormick Foundation. Prior to this work, Amberg’s military service was as director of U.S. Army Public Affairs for the Midwest. During his military career, Amberg served as the chief of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army at Camp Zama, Japan. During this time, he was deployed to the Philippines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Previous assignments took him to Kuwait, Germany, and Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Storm.

Since retiring from the army, Amberg has remained active in his service. He is a member of the board of the United Service Organizations of Illinois and the vice president of the West Point Society of Chicago. He participates in the military and media subcommittees of Chicago’s Union League Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Naperville, and is a first degree Knight of Columbus.

“As a military veteran myself and on behalf of Chicago Bancorp, we congratulate Jack for this tremendous honor and thank him for his dedication to our country,” said Stephen Calk, chairman and CEO of Chicago Bancorp and The Federal Savings Bank. “We take great pride in helping customers, including both active and retired military men and women, achieve the American dream of owning a home. We have tremendous respect for the work of the U.S. military and are pleased to have such a recognized veteran on the Chicago Bancorp team.”

Amberg is a native of Chicago and earned a bachelor’s degree in leadership from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master’s in Business Administration from Eastern New Mexico University. He is married with three children and lives in Naperville.
